Barbie Auction for Ballet Philippines

This past March 17th, 200 OOAK Barbie dolls were put on display and were auctioned off to benefit the Ballet Philippines Scholars... 40 of the nation's top designers took part in redesigning, styling, and dressing each Barbie dolls for the auction - like the one pictured on the left - styled and created by Pitoy Moreno. Below are a few of my favorites:

Ethnic Barbies

just found these two gals from the ETHNIC Barbie Series, some of the last (and definitely some of the BEST!) few made by RICHWELL Corp, Philippines! Though there were about 7 different styles (not too sure now!) I remember keeping these two for myself as I really love the intricate work on their costumes... so much more work and detailing than the others...

The dolls were made for the Philippine market but we all know, they were much more appreciated by adult collectors worldwide... these two represents 2 of the various Ethnic Groups that inhabits the Philippines - a nation of many, many islands...

doll collecting, pinoy style

A little get together to basically meet some of Manila's dolly collectors.... What an eye opener for me.... not only did I not know that doll collecting is TRULY alive and well in Manila, but that everyone's collecting habits runs the gamut.... with just a handful of people who can make the IMPROMPTU get-together, the condo was none-the-less overflowing with dolls... all sorts of dolls: momoko, blythe, frs, dgs, tonners, genes, butterfly rings, barbies, susies, etc....
It was TRULY a very nice surprise!!!

Metro Comic Convention - Manila, Philippines

This past August, MEGA MALL in Manila, Philippines staged another FUN and WELL ATTENDED, Metro Comic Convention/Exhibition... Though I missed it (AGAIN!) I was completely blown away by how well the doll community is represented in this convention... From what am told, there really is a BIG DOLL COMMUNITY in Manila and their collecting choices ran the gamut: Blythe, Tonners & Gene Dolls, Pullips, Momokos,FRs, and even our very own Susie, Mensajero & Angel Dolls!!!
Thanks to Joan's lovely photographs. PLS SEE MORE HERE
